Al Davis has Hot Hand in Masters By Alan Brizee Dec. 15 97
Most bowlers would be happy with a 678 week. Well, for Al Davis, that was just a practice week. Al had just one open and 20 strikes at Lucky Strike Bowl on November 27th. The Vantage Lite Traveling Masters went to Santa Cruz Lanes on November 3rd where Davis rolled his 2nd 7 shooting 750 on one open and 25 strikes. After he spared to open the second game, he then shot the lights out by punching out for 290, finishing the evening with 19 of 22 strikes. Tucson Bowl on November 10th was next and Al started slow with an open, strike and spare. He caught on fire and carried 24 of the next 27 shooting a 299 2nd game and threw 26 strikes that night. With Cactus having the high average of the 5 Vantage centers we travel to, Davis had to let bowlers know he liked the shot. He started Cactus on November 17 burning the maples with the first 7, was tapped and then threw the leagues longest string with 15 to get tapped and shot his 2nd 299 again in the 2nd game. The last game started with 5 strikes as he shot his 8th 800 series and his high personal best of 835.
For the 4 weeks, Al had a 253 average, had only 3 opens, threw 101 strikes averaging 8.4 strikes per game. He also had 3- 11 baggers all in the 2nd game while bowling in 3 different centers. If he was bowling no-tap, his 8 would have been 900 and averaged a super 285 over the 12 games.
We just visited Santa Cruz and Davis again was close to 300 as he opened the week with the first 10 for a 287 to finish the week with his 5th 700. He holds high average in the Masters with a 222 by having 21 clean games of the 42 bowled. No opens every other game helps keep your average above the clouds. He throws 6.9 strikes per game on top of staying away from hard spares. GREAT BOWLING AL.
Al thanks Billy Bundza for the sale of the used Dynothane XTC. "Best $30 investment Ive ever made."
